Dolly Parton refused the idea of being inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame becasue she had not made a rock album. As much as she is a pop culture phenom who is accepted despite enres the country music icon did not thin it was fair to potentially take the spot from a rocker. Her humility attracted votes and landed her a spot in the 2022 class of inudctees anyway. This year more women are bein honored that any time in hisotry. The Jolene siner joins Pat Benetar, Britsh rockers Duran Duran, R&B leend Lionel Richie, Beck, Dionne Warwick, and Devo were not chosen this time around. Artists are eligible 25 years after their frist commercial recording.
Tweeted the 79-year-old vocalist: "I am honored and humbled by the fact that I have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame . Of course I will accept it gracefully. Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the @rockhall. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor."
This year more women - 6 - are being honored than at any time in history. The Jolene singer joins Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics, Carly Simon and blueser Elizabeth Cotten. The late Sylvia Robinson, founder of the Suar Hill Record Label (dubbed as teh Mother of Hip Hop), will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award. Robinson is the first Black woman and the first woman who was primarily known as a record label executive to receive that award. Per Billboard, the first three women to receive the award were songwriters: Carole King (1990) and Ellie Greenwich and Cynthia Weil (both 2010).
British Rockers Duran Duran, R&B legend Lionel Richie, the Eurythmics and Eminem are also in the RRHF class of 2022.
Ubiquitous producing duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are being recognized with an “award for musical excellence.”
Beck, Dionne Warwick, and Devo were not chosen this time around. Artists are eligible 25 years after their frist commercial recording.
Harry Belafonte and Judas Priest wil receive recognition in special cateories as "early influencers" at the ceremony in Novermber to be held at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater.
