Awkward moment raises questions about Pres. Biden and memory loss

Pres. Joe Biden on Wednesday mistakenly acknoweldged a dead congresswoman while speaking at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.

Biden was thanking officials and advocates who were champions for the cause when he searched the audience with his eyes for Rep. Jackie Walorski, R-Ind., who died in a car crash along with two staffers in August.

Reporters later conftronted the press secretary, Karin Jean Pierre in the daily Wihite House briefing about the fumble and she refsed to admit it was a mistake, makin news for tussling with the press over what could have been a staffer's error.

CBS News Radio White House Correspondent Steven Portnoy asked the press secretary to explain Biden’s the mishap; "Can you explain where the mistake was made? Did the President--was the president confused? Was something written in the teleprompter that he didn't recognize? Can you just help us understand what happening?"

Jean-Pierre told Portnoy, he was making assumptions and proceeded to give the same insufficient answer she'd told other reporters minutes earlier, saying se was top of mind because of her work on food insecrities.
