Brittney Griner pleads guilty in Russian Court

Brittney Griner has pleaded guilty to drug charges in a Russian court on Thursday. Considering the US State Department said Griner was wrongfully detained, the plea came with questions. It was simply an acknowledgement that she possessed drugs that were not allowed in Russia. She told the court that she mistakenly packed the drugs. (The US State Department has previously stated that she was unlawfully detained. Unlawful detainment may be related to procedure and is the assessment of the US.)

Her attorney said she was acting responsibly in admitting the vaping paraphernalia were hers. “Considering her personality, that she is a role model to many people, to many young people — she just thinks she should be responsible for her actions," one of her lawyers, Maria Blagovolina, told reporters. The Phoenix Mercury Center could face up to 10 years in prison. Blagovolina said they hoped for the leniency of the court. Griner appears in court again next Thursday.

When she entered the court she was holding a photo of her fie Cherelle in her hand. Cherelle has stepped up efforts to get a stronger response from the White House Her wish to speak to Pres. Joe Biden was granted Wednesday. He vowed to exhaust all efforts to brin Brittney back home. Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre said Biden also wrote back to Griner after he read a letter in which she told him she feared that she would never et back home.
