Buffalo grocery store shooter targeted Blacks in mass attack; Pres. Biden responds

Ten people are dead and 3 were injured at a Buffalo supermarket rampage Saturday night (May 14), authorities say was an act of White supremacy extremism.

A white 18-year-old, Payton S. Gendron of Conklin, NY left a 180-page manifesto providing no doubt that his actions were racially motivated. “This was pure evil,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said. “A straight-up racially motivated hate crime.” Gendron was arrested on murder charges.

The suspect desired to have a purely White society for White children to grow up in he wrote. He had been totally radicalized into White Supremacy ideology.

Alexander Rosemberg, deputy regional director for the Anti-Defamation League, told WiVB News 4 that the documented was

“Greatly anti-Semitic, greatly racist against people of color, white supremacist, radicalized in all the ways we can think of -- 180 pages, I want to repeat, of this.”

The store Tops Friendly Market is located in a predominantly Black neighborhood that has the highest percentage of Blacks closest to the shooter's residence. Using a gun with the N-Word on it, Gendron had planned his every move and livestreamed the murders on social media platform Twitch. Twitch has since removed the video.

Pres. Joe Biden condemened the "abhorrent" attack as a form of domestic terrorism in the follwing statement:

Statement by President Biden on Mass Shooting in Buffalo, New York

Tonight, we grieve for the families of ten people whose lives were senselessly taken and everyone who is suffering the physical and emotional wounds of this horrific shooting. We are grateful for the bravery of members of law enforcement and other first responders who took immediate action to try to protect and save lives. The First Lady and I are praying for the victims and their families, and hearts all across this country are with the people of Buffalo.

We still need to learn more about the motivation for today’s shooting as law enforcement does its work, but we don’t need anything else to state a clear moral truth: A racially motivated hate crime is abhorrent to the very fabric of this nation. Any act of domestic terrorism, including an act perpetrated in the name of a repugnant white nationalist ideology, is antithetical to everything we stand for in America. Hate must have no safe harbor. We must do everything in our power to end hate-fueled domestic terrorism.
