Carolyn Bryant Donham, the white woman at the center of Emmett Till's murder, has died at 88. According to a death report filed Thursday in the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, Donham died in hospice care Tuesnday night in Westlake, Louisiana.
An all-white jury acquitted Donham’s then-husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother J.W. Milam. They later confessed to Look magazine they had indeed beaten and killed Till. In 2007, a Mississippi grand jury failed to indict Donham on any charges. She confessed yo giving a dale account of the incident,
Last year, another grand jury voted against indicting her. Her death markrd the last chance for anyone to be held accountable for his death.
The Till family was actively pursuing justice in the form of jail time for Donham up until her passing.
