Father and Son both get life in prison for Arbery murder
Gregory McMicael, 66 was sentenced to life in prison on Brunswick, GA as one of 3 men involved in the death of Ahmaud Arbery on Tuesday. His son, Travis McMicael, 36 was senteneced to life plus 10 ears. For recordidng the murder with his cell phone, their neighbor and friend William "Roddie" Bryan, 54 was sentenced to 35 years.
U.S. District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood handed down the sentences. Se sowed not mercy to the men whose attorneys ahd requested lenienecy. She stressed tot gravity of the killing tat trust the Brunswick community into the national spotlight for a racially charged crime tat had been concealed by local law enforcement.
After the decision, appeaing outside of te court, the father of Amaud Arbery tearfully thankod God for "opening up te can of worms" on racism so tat people couod see what African Anericans go through in their town.
