Keisha Lance Bottoms to depart the White House


(TSN): Former Atlanta Mayor Kesiha Lance Bottoms will soon be leaving the White House after serving as the Director of the Office of Public Engagement since last June, she announced on Monday.


In a tweet she explained that she had wanted to take a break but took the postion and has remained longer than anticipated. "Term ended in January 2022 I didn’t take a break, planning to work hard for 6 months and relax over the summer. @WhiteHouse called again in June and I said, "I’ll stay just thru midterms in November." Months later this extraordinary season soon ends. Thanks family and @POTUS."


The senior advisor role she filled had been previously held by Cedric Richmond.

Mrs. Lance-Bottoms was journalism major FAMU and briefly served as a CNN commentator before commiting to the job in Washington.


What is next on her professional agenda after she takes a break? She has not closed the door to a return to poltics she tells the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC).


“It’s time for me to get back home, get back to my family, and focus on the future. This is a time for me to rest and reevaluate and determine what’s next,” she told the AJC.


In February at the White House the FAMU journalism graduate was able to give back to engag with the community in a direct way by leading a Q&A with an all-Black group of student journalists and Vice President Kamala Harris.


President Joe Biden announced Monday that Steven Benjamin, the former mayor of Columbia, S.C., will be the successor to Bottoms.
