Kirk Franklin's son Kerrion released from jail

Updated: Jun 3, 2022

The son of gospel superstar Kirk Franklin, Kerrion Franklin has been released from and Orange County, CA jail after two months. RADAR online first reported the news that the younger Franklin was let out of prison on June 1. The April 10 arrest was related to a busted tail light, but escalated due to outstanding warrants stemming from an August 2007 criminal case. His bond had been set at $100,000.

The "Bad Boy Los Angeles" reality star was cited for 3 misdemeanor charges: 1. Falsely representing self to officer, 2) Possession of purported government issued California driver's license/California identification, and 3) Possession of alcohol under 21. Initally he was held without bond because of the unresolved warrants where he failed to appear in court and because he was driving a dead woman's car and her murder was erroneously pinned on him. The judge apparently granted the release while one of the charges still stands.

In his first Instagram post since being detained, Kerrion shared, "The journey is not over yet 1 more case left to handle tho freely here ii am out of jail."

On Friday he posted a video of himself out shopping saying he just wanted to "vibe with his followers. "If anyone asks you, tell tell them, 'let him get right,'" he instructed them, to ward off rumors. The time he spent in jail was "humbling" he said and his attention is on takin care of business and his "real case" rather than situations from his "ancient past."

The vibrations with the father and son were bad before he was locked up. They has a feud in 2021 after an audio recording of Kerrion, 33 was leaked calling his father an abuser. Another profanity-laced call showing the father dismissin his sone also came out.

The multi Grammy-winning music minister addressed the fall out on the Cameron Hall show and apologized for his behavior in a recording where he was heard cursing at his son.

Mr. Franklin issued an apology to fans for his past conduct which read:

"I am sincerely sorry to all of you. I sincerely apologize. I want you to know as a father, that during that conversation, I called the family therapist and got that therapist on the phone to try to help. He never played that part of the recording."

Although he never openly spoke about Kerion being on lock down, it appeared that the artist had completely detached from his son when he did an interview from jail and asked the community for help. Perhaps the relationship is on the mend as Kerrion thanked his "mother and father" in the post.
