Medical grade baby formula from Europe arrives to U.S.


Prayers have been answered for parents with babies that have protein sensitivites with the overseas delivery of a "ton" of medical rade formula that is expected to bein hittin shelves this week. Above: Pallets delivered by the Air Force to Indianapolis.


Infants that can not tolerate the protein in cows milk will be prioritized to receive the first shipment of formula that arrived from Europe to the U.S. on Sunday. A military aircraft dropped off 78,000 of hypo-allergenic formula from Ramstein Air Base in Germany to Indianapolis -- enough product to fill half a million baby bottles. This formula will go to hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. It will take some time to get products on shelves but this is a sign of progress on the formula shortage crisis.


Brian Deese, the director of the National Economic Council, said he is hopeful that products would begin to be reshelved as early as this week.

Reese told CNN State of the Union host Dana Bash that the plane carrying – cover about 15% of the product’s nationwide shortage.


The White House has said a total of 132 pallets of Nestle Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula were being shipped. AN additional 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula are on the way, expected to arrive this week.
