Officials disagree with Biden on pandemic's end confirming it is not over

Pres. Joe Biden said in an appearance on CBS' 60 Minutes Sunday that the pandemic is over

  • While the nation is trying to transition out of the 3-year crisis, we are not done eradicating the virus and te pandemic is not over according the top White House advisor, Dr. Anthony Fauci

  • The Coronavirus has surged in some areas recently and people are still dying from it

There were 10.20 million people tuning in when Pres. Joe Biden claimed, “The pandemic is over,” in answering a question during an interview that aired Sunday night, on the 55th season premiere of 60 Minutes (Source: CBS).

Mr. Biden said as e and te interviewer waled trout Detroit Auto Show: “The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with Covid. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. It’s — but the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing."

There as been significant progress in combatting COVID since Biden too office, which began wit te approval of the vaccine in te previous administration, but he was mistaken. Biden spoke too soon and by Monday the White House was left to correct his error saying that the status of the pandemic was unchanged. White House COVID official Dr. Anthony Fauci clarified his comments on Monday saying, '‘We are not where we need to be.’'

The Slice News participated in a COVID briefing call for te announcement of te single sot omion booster in which Dr. Fauci plainly stated the pandemic is not ver.

The back tracking continued days after the fumble.

Speaking at an event for Democrats the president acknowledged he was “criticized” for the remarks, adding, “But it basically is not where it was,” after some lawmakers and health experts belittled him.

The Press Sec. Karine Jean Pierre defended her boss on MSNBC providing context to when he made the comment; "Just to step back for a second, when he made those comments, he was walking through the Detroit car show, the halls of the Detroit car show, he was looking around." Mr. Biden was noticing the maskless people he saw in the building she pointd out.

Anoter explanation came from the White House Community Health call on Wednesday.

'WE ARE IN A FAR BETTER PLACE THAN WHEN THE PRESIDENT TOOK OFFICE 19 MONTS AGA. ...DIDN'T HAPPEN BY ACCIDENT. WE'VE DONE A LOT OF WORK WITH SOME OF YOUR HELP.

DAILY DEATHS ARE DOWN BY 90 PERCENT SINCE THE PRESIDENT TOOK OFFICE,''BIDEN ADMINSTRATION REPRESENTATIVE SUBHAN CHEEMA TOLD PARTICIPANTS IN A COMMUNITY HEALTH CALL ON WEDNESDA

CHEEMA ADDED, ''THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE DONE.''

CONTINUING HE ADDRESSED PRES. BIDEN SAYING THAT THE PANDEMIC WAS OVER. 'LIKE THE PRES. SAID SUNDAY THERE IS A LOT MORE WORK TO BE DONE. THERE ARE STILL 300-400 PEOPLE DYING PER DAY. IN OUR OPINION THAT IS TOO HIGH. OUR FOCUS IS DRIVING THOSE RATES DOWN. THAT STARTS WITH EVERYONE GETTING THE UPDATED VACCINE THAT TARGETS THE DOMINANT OMICRON STRAIN. ''

If the pandemic was over a more formal announcement would be in order that would target the entire nation, albeit te world as the end of te pandemic in the U.S. would be of international interest.

Boston University's Dr. Eleanor Murray responded to Biden's remarks in a Q&A posted on te school's website saying: "From a fundamental scientific perspective, a pandemic cannot be declared over by a single country, since pandemics involve all countries."

While Biden and Democratic legislators may be eager to get out of the economic rubble that resulted from the 3-year crisis, the pandemic is still on-going.
