Power often covers a multitude of sins.
Upon resigning from office as New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo said, " In many ways I see the world through the eyes of my daughters. . ." He has 3 of them; a set of twins and another, all over the age of 20.
He spoke of the affect the sexual assault accusations has had on them. And as if being a dad would make him exempt from crossing the line he directly addressed how he knew the ordeql made them feel and assured them he "would never" "disrespect" women.
If being a parent of one sex or another removed bad character or created good character former president Donald Trump, who adores his daughters woukd nit have been a swrial cheater ir thiught to "grab" women bybthe private parts as he wqs caught on tape stating. Cuomo has not been proven guilty on any if the charges New Yoek AG Leritia James uncovered in her investigation. He has been shamed, lost trust and support from nembers of the Democratic party and the publuc and may never work again.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hotchul, a woman will replace Cuomo. In addition to the on-gping Coronavirus crisis and bevy of other issues in the state she will have more responsibility that spills over from Cuomo's case. She must insist on having a harrassement0free workplace. This can not be a moment where Cuomo leaves, almost in a "scarificial " manner and the office culture remains the same. Going forward there needs to be a reset at the Governor's mansion the leaders lean into HR matters that will make those remain comfortable working there. She will bear the responsibilty to ensuring that the workplace culture changes so that men and women are more confident coming forth when their rights when someone in authority abuses power in their roles.
Anyone who remotely has the same piteous mentality as the out-going govenor will be a predator. The Bible says, "let not your good deeds be spoken of as evil " (Romans 14c:h16). Most adult women can discern the difference between an innocent peck in the cheek and an inappropriare one. Althoigj Cuomo denued all sexual harassment charges, he did admit he may have gotten too familiar with some associates and kissed the customary Italian manner. This may not qaulify for him being sentenced, and many may agree that it is harmless but it is suspicious and imappropriate behavior for the work place. It is interestting that as many women who cam e forth with accusations that there wer not people oming to his defense arguing that he is can be too friendly, but is innocence.
Does Andrew Cuomo's resignation make him any different than any other powerful man who has gotten away with an infraction because he had the money, power, poularity or ifluence to avoid legal ramificattions? Time and time again in Amerinca life, a high profile person embroiled a sex scandal avoids penalties that address the depth of the accusations or crime it proven. From Harvey Weinstein and former Pres. Donald Trump to Bill Cosby and Kevin Spacey, to Supreme Court Justice Bret Kavanaugh, men in power ofen avoid accountability in sex scandals, especially in the workplace. Cuomo is walking away from the complaints of misconduct with out any punishment too. Resignation is not punsihment -- it's a way out.
The AGs report indicated that by the testimony of several women he violated the trust of being a public service and for that reason alone his exit is justified.
