On Wednesday, the Parkland shooter was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing 17 people in the 2018 school massacre. The judge read the sentence and names of each victim one-by-one. Noticably grieving parents and loved ones who had expected the death penalty listened as the wieght of a less than desired sentence weighed on them.
A jury decided that gunman Nikolas Cruz was was "under the influence of extreme mental or emotional disturbance” when he terrorized the Florida comunity.
Jurors said they looked at the condition of his life as mitigating circumstnaces in avoiding the death penalty, a decision victims relatives bemoaned after the mid-October verdict.
