Pharrell Williams' 3-day Something in the Water concert concludes on Juneteeth with a "Pop-up Church" service. The day will be filled with gospel music performances to lift the spirit. Held at the MLK Monument in West Potomac Park, the event is free and open to all ages. Willams decided to hold the festival in DC to celebrate Juneteenth becoming a national holiday. It was previously held in Virginia where he lobbied for Junettenth to become an offical holiday.
Usher, Justin Timberlake and Lil Baby drew a massive crowd over the previous night. Crowd control was an issue with one fan needed emerency aid. Williams stopped the who to allow the on-site medic vehicle to come through. Entertainers have been more sensitve to over-srowind at outdoor events after several people died at a Travis Scott concert last year in Houston. Pharrell's event was held on Independence Ave. attracting 25-30,000 attendees.
From Noon to 6pm guests are invited to come celebrate and uplift one another with gospel choirs, dance ministry, and local and national worship leaders sharing the gospel and prayer offerings, with performances and appearances by: Aaron Moses, Anthony Brown, Howard Gospel Choir, JJ Hairston, Jon Batiste, Kierra Sheard, Ricky Dillard, Tamela Mann, Tamar Braxton, Tim Bowman Jr, Travis Green and Voices of Fire.
This service is produced in partnership with Undivided Entertainment with curatorial support from Virginia and DC faith leaders: Bishop Ezekiel Williams, Reverend Thomas Bowen and Reverend Tony Lee.
Come prepared for long lines, crowds and heat.
