Pres. Biden secretly visits Ukraine by train amid war with Russia

(The Slice): Air raid sirens blasted while Pres. Joe Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Monday. He met the leader, Volodymyr Zelensky at the Sr. Michael Cathedral there in a clandestine operation as the Russian invasion against his country enters a second year. It was announced that Mr. Biden would be visiting nearby Poland. Yet under the cloak of secrecy he took a strategic 2-hr train ride instead of an aircraft to the war-torn country, directly entering dangerous territory. He said he did it to show "unwavering support" to help Ukraine stop Russia.

The trip comes a year after Mr. Biden's previous visit to Ukraine and days ahead of Russia's attack. This was his eigth visit but first during war time.

Both men spoke about the significance of Biden being there.

In anticipation of the next stage of the battle, Biden announced a half-billion dollars in new aid. As requested, the package included more military equipment, such as artillery ammunition, javelins and Howitzers. The U.S. is also taking another swing at Moscow by imposing additional sanctions this week.

While the U.S. has vowed not to participate in the war the Commander-in-chief has put himself in harms way by being on the ground in a tenuous situation. Russia is an untrustworthy foe that began this war through lies and manupulation.

In December Zelensky visited the U.S. to expressed his appreciation to the nation for being the chief investor in their war effort. Zelensky has made appearances before the governments of other allied nations requesting continued military and financial support to help defeat a larger and wealthier adversary. Will Russian leader Vladmir Putin ratchet up his attacks after a Soverign leader leaves his footprint?

Meanwhile, other world leaders are hoping for a turning point in a fight that seems endless and is stifling resources.

Recently, the the president of Brazil addressed the desire for peace with Pres Biden at the White House. It is the quiet hope of the Biden Adminjstration that by helping Ukraine build up its defenses Russia will be more open to peace negations
