REMEMBERING 1/6 ONE YEAR LATER
(The Slice): Both Pres. Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris returned to the Statuatory Hall at the U.S. Capitol on the morning of January 6 one year after the Capitol was assaulted by mostly Republican rebels determined to overturn the government and block the peaceful transfer of power. They both addressed the historic moment, rebuking former Pres. Donald Trump for his part in the Capitol breach and tauted the heroism that saved the nation. Without mentioning Trump's name directly they placed the blame for the incident on his shoulders.

Mie Pence, people breaking windows and scaling the side of the building, They had maimed, injured and killed 5 and injured dozens of others. Capitol police officers were overwhelmed by the numbers. This imagery, in fact. encapsulates the level of violence that was deemed criminal in anture.
The rioters were a mixture of participants in the "Stop the Steal" rally held across from the White House that had been months in the making. Trump supporters fabricated a narrative about
Trump watched the terror unfold from the White House, doing nothing for hours. When he spoke in a An FBI investigation is still underway to hold every participant accountable. So far over 725 people have been arrested or convicted according to the Department of Justice.
A Jan. 6 Committee was formed to find out if the attack itself was planned with assistance from the Trump and his administration. They have issued over 52 subpoenas including to Trump ally Steve Bannon who was indicted on criminal contempt of Congress and former Trump Chief of Staff, who has been referred to the DOJ for defying the subpoena.
