The process for determining who the historic SCOTUS pick will be is underway.
Pres. Biden met with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to select the next Supreme Court nominee at the White Hose on Thursday. The group of 10 lawmakers shared their recommendations with the president. He says that they are in a "deep dive' search for the candidate who will replace retiring justice Stephen Breyer. "I've taken about four people and done the deep dive on them," Biden confirmed to NBC's Lester Holt in and interview.
Committee Chair former Illinois Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin, is tasked with vetting prospects and is working to get bipartisan support. Having actively reached out to Republican senators by text and conversations he said there are several Republicans open to voting for Biden's pick. Over the last week a series of phone calls and meetings have occurred to consider a range of candidates.
Durbin told reporters after the meeting at the White House, "The message was, 'We trust your judgement, Joe Biden, when it comes to choosing the right person." Biden says he will nominate a Black woman for the role by the end of February.
The White House has clinched the clues about who Biden is eyeing.
