(TSN): At a memorial service held in Richmond on Wednesday, family and friends said goodbye to Irvo Otieno.
Otieno suffocated when being restrained at the Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County on March 6. Seven Henrico County sheriff's deputies and three workers of the state psychiatric hospital have been charged with second-degree murder.
Rev. Al Sharpton called for mental health reform when performing g the eulogy for the 28-year-old.
"The disgrace was not that Irvo had mental problems. The disgrace is how you treated Irvo," civil rights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton told the mourners on Wednesday at First Baptist Church on Iron Bridge Road North.
Sharpton also challenged Gov. Glenn Youngin, who was not in attendance, to start serving the people instead of "posing and posturing ."
Youngkin said in a statement that people in need of mental health treatment should receive it pre-crisis.
