In an occassionally raucous #StateOfTheUnionAddress, President Joe Biden demonstrated leadership skills to expose that some members of the opposition party want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare.
The moment Biden attempted to unify the divided Congress using hyperbole to his advantage stood out. Here is how it went down...
"Some Republicans want Social Security to sunset,." he said.
Jeers of denial cresecendoed among the GOP. They feigned as if Biden's words were a bluff. Republicans have presented the idea of possibly getting rid of Social Security benefits and Medicare for years. The prospect of cuts in both areas has been well documented in recent news articles. Per AP: ^The record ranges from President George W. Bush’s ideas about privatizing Social Security to House Speaker Paul Ryan’s sweeping Medicare overhaul plan to current Sen. Rick Scott’s idea of allowing those and other federal programs to 'sunset.'"
Refusing to change his claim the president noted they flipped their position saying, "I enjoy conversion."
The camera caught several Republicans waving their hands in disagreement that their party wants to end the two programs that help the elderly.
He offers detractors proof of his assertion.
More opposing shouts came from the lively audience.
"We all apparently agree on Social Security; we got uninmity! , "We all agree, stand up for seniors."
Both sides obliged.
With a combination or wit and reverse psychology Biden got both Democrats and Republicans to rise to a standing ovation with applause in spport of seniors.
Unifying the floppy wings of the Congress was a stated goal of his speech.
In that moment he had Republicans right where he wanted them -- the palm of the American voter's hands. This highly viewed event had captured the Republicans appearing to agree to reach across the aisle on highly significant programs.
The viewing world and those in the room know who he was in charge.
Biden knows the reaction from the assembled body is not the action necessary to secure the federal entitlements. His trick provides mileage, And he plans to hold Majority Leader Kevin McCathy's party accountable with every iota of documenation of Republicans pretensing to agree.
"Calll my office."
"Look it up."
The leader kept a commanding tone the entire time as he dellivered one of tgexstrongest speeches of his presidential career. .
This moment found the son from Sxranto, PA in top firm. Mr. Biden was posted, powerful and purpose-driven.
