Traci Braxton passed away on Friday from cancer of the esophagus. She was fighting the disease for a year without going public her husband said in a statement to TMZ. She was 50.
“WE HAVE COME TO A TIME WHERE WE MUST INFORM THE PUBLIC THAT AFTER A YEAR OF PRIVATELY UNDERGOING A SERIES OF TREATMENTS FOR ESOPHAGEAL CANCER OUR BELOVED TRACI BRAXTON HAS GONE ON TO GLORY.”

Her son also took to social media to acknowledge her transition:
"When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this. She fought to the end and today she’s at peace. I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she’s isn’t in pain anymore.
I love you ma I’m going to miss you."
Finally, her big sister, legendary R&B singer Toni Braxton shared an announcement on Instagram
It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci. Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly.
Traci passed this morning as the snow was falling, our angel is now a snowflake.
We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life.

Traci was a singer and actress who stood out from the rest of the Braxton singers with her real personality. She sang background for Toni and took part in a trio with her sisters Trina and Tawonda. Fans got a closer look at Traci in her appearances on the family's reality show "Braxton Family Values." She also had a role in the TV One film, "Sinners Wanted." She eventually left the reality show before it concluded due to unresolved family conflicts.
Last year fans were concerned about her thin appearance in photos posted online form her son's wedding. Many speculated that extreme shift in her size was related with her on-going attempts to lost weight, which she shred on the reality show. However, she turned off comments, never addressing the reason for her extreme loss of weight.
Her family was by her side when she transitioned.
