BIDEN: "JUSTICE HAS BEEN DELIVERED AND THIS TERRORIST LEADER IS NO MORE"
On Monday evening in a White House address, Pres. Joe Biden told the nation that the U.S. alsmost a year after the U.S. withdrew killed the most- wanted terrorist in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri, 71.
The counterterorism operation was carried out over te weekend with a precision drone strike. Zawahiri was on a balcony at a safe house in Kabul on July 30 when he was fatally struck. His family was inside the house, but no one else was harmed the president said.
Zawahiri was Osama bin Laden’s deputy during the 9/11 attacks and his successor in 2011 This death comes 11 years after bin Laden was killed in Pakistan during the Obama Administration. Zawahiri had recently released a video telling his supporter to attac the U.S. and its allies. he was actively posing a treat.
The mission was well planned in advance. A Senior White House offical said the U.S. had been tracking his whereabouts for months. Biden vowed that no matter long it takes, te U.S. will take our adversaries tat pose a treat to te nation's security.
