(TSN): The Biden administration will send 1,500 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in anticipation of a migrant surge once Title 42, the coronavirus pandemic-era restrictions, lift on May 11.
The COVID-19 restriction allowed U.S. officials to turn away tens of thousands of migrants crossing the southern border.
Troops will be providing administrative relief so Border Patrol Agents can perform law enforcement duties and field work, officials said. Military personnel will do data entry, warehouse support and other administrative tasks.
This action is being taken because the DHS "is putting forth processes to deal with the changes that are in front of use," because Congress has failed to act said Press Secretary Karrine Jean Pierre on Tuesday.
In 2018 then Pres. Donald Trump sent 800 troops to the border to allay security concerns about an influx of Central Americans. Supporters cheered his response.
Meanwhile, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues to send border crosssers to Democratic states, a move the WH call playing politics with human and one that isn't helpi g the immigration problem by allowing people who entredthe country illegally to stay -- just not deep in the heart of Texas.
